Hi, I’m Shawn!

I’m the founder of kabn, where I offer modern, affordable, energy-efficient house plans and custom home designs throughout the US and Canada.

I have nearly 20 years of experience in residential design, along with building-science training through BCIT and Passive House Canada.

Before starting kabn, I ran THE small HOUSE CATALOG for more than 15 years, selling over 20,000 stock and custom house plans across North America.

I've also built seven homes by hand, including a Passive House. That ons-site experience has taught me a lot about what works on paper, what works on site, and the challenges of building in different locations.

I started kabn to focus on practical, genuinely energy-efficient home design and work more directly with clients to bring those ideas into their own projects.

Whether you're modifying one of my plans or starting something new, you'll work directly with me. I enjoy helping people work through the details, from early design ideas to permitting and construction.

If you're planning a project, I'd be happy to hear about it.
