Hi, I’m Shawn.

I’m the founder of kabn, creating modern, energy-efficient stock plans and custom cabin and small-home designs for clients across the US and Canada.

With over 15 years of residential design experience and building-science training through BCIT and Passive House Canada, I design quiet, practical homes that are comfortable, durable, cost-conscious, and straightforward to build.

For 15 years, I ran smallhousecatalog.com, where I sold more than 20,000 house plans to clients across North America.

I created kabn to focus on a smaller, more considered collection of modern, energy-efficient plans, alongside direct design support for clients.

I’ve built seven of my own homes—including a Passive House—giving me firsthand experience with permitting, construction, detailing, and building performance.

I also offer as-needed online guidance for kabn plans, both stock and custom, during permitting and construction.
